South Padre Island Events & Festivals

South Padre is a barrier island in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in Cameron County and is a popular vacation destination in United States. South Padre island boasts of warm weather, good beaches, amazing nightlife, cultural diversity and a range of recreational activities. It plays host to thousands of visitors all year round, but particularly during college spring breaks.

Summer holidays see an influx of people in the area with college-age tourists taking the island over with parties and active nightlife. The Memorial Day kicks-off the beach activities and the Labor Day marks the end of year. Fourth of July is a huge holiday on the island and includes parades and fireworks alongside entertainment and other activities. Here is a list of events and festivals that are held in South Padre island.

  1. Annual Longest Causeway run and Wellness Walk is enjoyed by participants and spectators in each January.
  2. Easter is one the most holy festivals celebrated in United States, and is a time for enjoying egg hunts and picnics in the area.
  3. October finds not only Halloween activities in the area but also Dead celebrations which give visitors insight into the nearby Mexican culture.
  4. Bikefest- This event is organized every middle weekend in October.
  5. It would be lovely for you to know that South Padre Island Splash takes place at the end of April each year and again the first weekend in October and is considered as the major tourist draw.
  6. The annual Chile cook-off in February is one of the favorite activities of locals in the area. The Texas International Fishing tournament may not sound like a big deal, but with history spanning more than sixty years, this August event is surely  draws a huge crowd to this area.
  7. A surfing competition is organized in the area, each year in April.
  8. South Padre also hosts International music film festival every year. It involves a lot of locals and performers, so as to present a feast of music before everyone.

You can even embark on a two hour aboard a 60 foot cruise boat and see how bottle nosed and spinner dolphins live in the area. After the boat docks, you can even visit South Padre island Sealife centre and explore other creatures. Climb on a bike and peddle down Padre Boulevard and do some shopping for island style clothing, jewellery and gather some souvenirs to take home in remembrance of your time spent in luxurious paradise.
