It is just thirty kilometers from Mexico, which is another reason for it’s’ popularity (because visitors can often go to Mexico from here).
South Padre island is a very popular destination for spring breaks, because it presents an assortment of activities for youth. It is a popular spot with kids who are on a little bit of prowl for a little bit of craziness. Though this place is relatively safe, South Padre island can get a bit out of control during this time of the year. Visitors should be awry of traveling to this place during this time, unless they are planning to be involved in the party scene.
There are some safety warnings that the travelers should be aware of, if they are going to this place during the time of spring break. First is a reminder to drink responsibly. Everyone knows that drinking is a part of fun during this time of the year but alcohol poisoning is no joke. Hydration is also important, as much for non-drinkers as for those who are drinking. The Texas sun is hot and it is easy to get dehydrated. So you should carry along a bottle of glucose or any other multi-mineral drink, if you are weak or prone to getting tired easily.
Partiers should also remember to treat each other with due respect. Women are an increased risk of violence, especially sexual violence, during this time of the year. So if you are a single women traveler, then don’t dare to go to South Padre during this time of the year. Women should be accompanied by their spouses or boy friend, if going to South Padre during spring break. You are sure to find hooligans and notorious elements during spring break.
Other than spring break, there are not a lot of safety issues to be worried about for a South Padre island stay. The area is relatively crime free. Water safety and sun safety, are particularly important in a place that can get as hot as this, but other than this, travelers should go out in the sun and have lots of fun.
