This beautiful island is located in Cameron County, off the southernmost Gulf Coast of Texas and is a popular vacation destination in U.S.

You can carry out numerous activities in this island, ranging from skiing, parasailing, surfing and kiteboarding to fishing, exploring the natural flora, visiting galleries or museums and simply enjoy the South Padre sunset. Those who love fishing are certainly in for a treat because this island presents an assortment of around 500 species of fish to go after! The species may include red fish, drum, and king fish, tuna, Wahoo and many more! Sounds interesting, right? Well, it certainly is! There are two types of fishing explorations in South Padre mainly: Bay fishing and deep sea fishing!

Bay fishing is generally carried out by those who want to have adventure on the Laguna Madre Bay. In this place, you can make use of the rod and reel to catch some lovely fishes. You can either opt for fishing on a party boat or go on a private charter trip. The only difference is that- on a party boat, you will have other people along with your group whereas on a private boat it will just be your group! Of, course, the cost is going to differ. Fishing on a party boat may roughly cost $20 to $30 per fisherman in comparison to $350 for 2 people, on private charter trips. However, the fun part is that most of the Bay fishing trips are done in an interval of 3-5 hours and go throughout the day!

Deep Sea fishing is for those people who love extreme adventure and are ready to go for the kill! Deep sea fishing gives you the opportunity to see a huge assortment of aquatic life from sting rays to sharks and mostly the fishing is concentrated on catching fishes like red snapper, mackerel, and pompano. Many of the charters offer half-day or full-day trips, to those interested in fishing. The half-day trips last for around four hours whereas the full day trips last for around 8-10 hours. Like bay fishing, the party boats cost $50 to $80 a person and the private charter trips cost around $350 for 2 people for a half day trip and $500 for a full day trip.

South Pare Island fishing is a unique experience but you need to know about the gears required and the dangers of fishing out there. Obviously, you will not want your fishing trip to get ruined because of any carelessness or negligence on your part! So, stop thinking and start acting. Just pack your bags and head-off straightaway for your South Padre fishing trip!

Narragansett Bay

Narragansett Bay is one of the most famous bay and estuary on the north side of Rhode Island Sound. It covers around 147 mi² (380 km²), and the Bay forms New England’s major estuary, which functions as an open natural harbor, and includes a small archipelago.

I must tell you that there are over 30 islands in the bay but the three most famous islands are as follows. They are: Aquidneck Island, Conanicut Island, and Prudence Island. The water bodies which form the part of the Narragansett Bay include the Sakonnet River; Mount Hope Bay; and the southern, tidal part of the Taunton River.

Providence is the Rhode islands largest city and I must tell you that it is the state capital as well. New port is another important city around the state. The Narragansett Bay is a ria that is a series of the flooded river valley formed of the dropped crustal blocks in a horst and graben system that is slowly subsiding sandwiched between a still-shifting fault system.

On the other hand, the estuary system is gigantic in contrast to the current flow of the three small rivers that enter the bay, in the northeast, the Taunton River and in the northwest, the Providence and Seekonk Rivers. The current profile of Narragansett Bay is instead the consequence of the latest glaciations of New England, under the edges of the Lauren tide ice sheet at the Last Glacial Maximum, about 18,000 B.P.

I really feel that up till now you must have got an idea how this bay is formed and I must tell you that you will really love visiting it.

History
The first visit to the European was really in the late 16th century. At the time, the area in the region of the bay was populated by two different and separate groups of natives: the west side of the bay was occupied by the Narragansett’s, and the east side was being occupied by the Wampanoag, who occupied the land east to Cape Cod.

It is really accepted by the most historians that the first European to enter the bay was an Italian whose name was Giovanni da verrazzano. It is believed that he entered the bay after visiting the New York Bay. I must tell you that he entered the bay in the 16th century in fact in the year 1524. His ship name was La Dauphine.  Later in the year 1614 the great explorer Adrian block visited the bay and prepared the map of the area.

You can call the Adrian block as the explorer who explored this bay. This bay has seen many invasions by some of the really great Europeans and is now one of the busiest places of the country.

Jamestown, Rhode Island

Jamestown is the town located in the new port county which is situated in the Rhode Island in the United States. The Conanicut Island is the second largest island in the Narragansett Bay. The James town is situated entirely on the Conanicut Island.

I must say that the human arrived in the area about 10000 to 20000 years ago which marks the end of the last ice age. They set up the camps near streams and rivers. The sea level started rising Ongoing melting of glaciers caused the sea level to rise, and this covered the low lying areas and at last filling the Narragansett Bay. The rising sea level really forced the human being to move to the higher elevation and this really submerged the traces of all the early inhabitants which were found on this island. The oldest human remains found on this Iceland are as old as the 3000 B.C.

The Italian navigator Giovanni Giovanni da Verrazzano visited the island in the year 1524. He was also followed by his crew. In 1637, this island of the Dutch was used for the fur trading. And it was not early until in 1638 the English men made the arrangement to use this island for grazing the sheep.

The ferries were in command and organized the trade between the Conanicut Island and Newport by 1675. In 1678, this island of Conanicut was integrated as the town of Jamestown. At that time there were only about 150 residents. The town was named after the name of James, Duke of York, who was going to become the King James II in 1685.

Around 1710, most of the Conanicut Island’s current roads were in place. And in 1728, the first windmill for grinding corn was built which used the sea breeze for power. This was because there was no source of running the water to turn the waterwheel.

In the year1775 and on December 10, 200 British and Hessian troops landed at East Ferry on Conanicut Island and they started marching towards West Ferry, and on way they burnt the most of the ferry houses. And when they returned to East Ferry, then also they destroyed many buildings, which included fourteen homes; and this caused more than 200 of the conanicut Islands to flew to the mainland and they were 556 in total number.

In the very next year a British fleet arrived in Narragansett Bay and was able to occupy the city of new port. The British took over the charge of the colonial militia batteries at Fort Dumpling which is now part of Fort Wetherill and the Conanicut Battery at Beavertail which is situated just south of Fort Getty. It was not earlier than the year 1779 when the British left Narragansett Bay. As they departed, they shattered the fortifications they had occupied, and burned Beavertail lighthouse.

I must again repeat that this just a little bit detail about the area. You will definitely come up with a lot more if you go in deep.

Blackstone River

The Blackstone River is a river in the US states of the Massachusetts and the Rhode Island. It flows for approximately 80 kilometers and drain water shed of almost 1400 square kilometers.

History
The name of the river was given after the name of William Blackstone whose original spelling was William Blaxton. He arrived in Weymouth, Massachusetts in the year 1623, and he became the first settler of present day Boston in the year 1625. He really became fed of Boston and relocated himself to Rhode Island in 1635 and he then built his home on the river, in what was going to become Cumberland in the coming future. I must tell you that originally in the American tongue the river was called “Kittacuck” and this meant in English to be the great tidal river. The “Kittacuck”, or Blackstone, was abundant with Salmon and Lamprey in pre-colonial and colonial times.

As far as the industrial revolution is concerned I must tell you that in the United States the revolution started in the year 1790 when Samuel Slater who was one of the industrialists built Slater Mill at Pawtucket Falls. You must know that this was the first textile mill in the United States and it was powered by the water of the Blackstone River. With this mil started the building of series of mills and the Blackstone River was now known as the Americas hardest working river. However due to the excess industrialization the Blackstone River by the end of the 19th century was known as the primary source of Narragansett Bay pollution.

In the year 1955 and in the month of August severe flooding on the Blackstone caused extensive damage to Woonsocket, Rhode Island. I must tell you that where the river was only 21 meters wide now swell to an extraordinary figure of 1 mile or 1.6 kilometers which really is quiet too wide. For your knowledge I must tell you that much of the flooding was due to the excessive and surplus rain that occurred as a slow moving tropical cyclone which moved over the area.

The river of Blackstone in combination with the woonasquatucket River to the south was elected an American Heritage River in 1998.

Origination
I must tell you that the river is formed in Worcester, Massachusetts by the meeting of the Middle River and Mill Brook. After that, I must tell you that it follows rough southeast course through Millbury, Sutton, Grafton, Northbridge, Uxbridge, Millville, and Blackstone. After that it flows into Rhode Island, and then it flows through Woonsocket, Cumberland, Lincoln, Central Falls, and Pawtucket, and then the river then reaches Pawtucket Falls. After that, it is termed as the Pawtucket River until it joins the Ten Mile River which is situated in the East Providence which forms the Seekonk River of Narragansett Bay.

Up till now you must have got an idea about how important the Blackstone River is and what role it played during the industrial revolution.

Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge

The Claiborne Pell Bridge or the new port bridge as it is called is one of the busiest bridges that you will come across in the United States. It is a suspension bridge which is operated by the Rhode Island turnpike and the bridge authorities that spans the eastern passage of the Narragansett Bay in the Rhode Island. This connects the city of new port in the Aquidneck Island and the town of the James town on the Conanicut Island. The bridge is the four lanes and is the part of the RI 138. You must also remember that it is a toll bridge and you will have to pay every time you cross it. I must tell you that this is the toll bridge and you will have to pay every time you cross it.

The average cost of the toll bridge is around US $2 per car. You can also get the ticket at the discounted prize if you are the regular person to cross the bridge. However I would not like to mention that what the discounted prize of the bridge is as it fluctuates with time. You must also not that this is the only toll road on the Rhode Island which accepts the E-Z Passes.  I must tell you that more than thousands of cars cross this bridge every day.

The main span of the New Port Bridge is 488 meters and I must say that its number is 70 among the largest suspension bridges in the world. And you must also note that it is the largest suspension bridge in the New England. The overall length of the bridge is 3428 meters and I must say that you this is really among the longest bridge throughout the world.

You must also note down that this bridge allows the ship to past through it. This really means that it does not affect the marine transport of the area. The suspension bridge was built between 1966-1969 at a price tag of US$54,742,000 by the Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade & Douglas firm, who are also famous for engineering the modern New York City Subway and the Cape Cod Canal.

The bridge was renamed for US senator Claiborne Pell in the year 1992 but it is still known in common with the name New Port Bridge only. However you should also note that the bicycles are not really allowed over the bridge. This is quiet sad for the bicycle riders. But some buses have the bicycle rack beside it and I must tell you that they are really quiet good for the bicycle riders. But it is quiet sad that such busses runs only every weekend.

Overall this is really a great bridge.
